A medical relief team came all the way from HCJB Global's hospital in Ecuador, South America, to help the Solomon Islanders after the earthquake and tsunami. Now, they are back in Honiara (Solomons capital) after working in the disaster area in the remote northern islands. The visitors split into two teams and worked on different islands. They were hosted and guided by two of our Gud Nius Redio staff (Charles and Tina). - Top picture - So many little islands (can you imagine living on one of these?)
- Second picture - The airstrip takes up most of the island (landing in these places is good for your prayer life)
You can see why getting around in the islands is difficult, time consuming, and expensive. You can also see why radio is so important in the islands
The team also brought a lot of basic medical and relief supplies into the country with them. Water purification tablets, malarial medicine, tents, and groundsheets, etc. - After flying, the doctors went another 2.5 hours by canoe (luxury canoes - these are aluminium with outboard motors) The supplies they brought with them are under the yellow sheet
As well as the supplies the doctors brought with them, Gud Nius Redio also ran an on-air appeal and listeners donated bags of kumura and rice, as well as vegetables, plates cups and cutlery. The team arrived two weeks after the earthquake and tsunami to find many families were still living in shelters, with little food and without clean drinking water.
- There were wounds, infections and hygiene-related sickness for the doctors to deal with
As well as bringing medical help the team also ministered the Gospel to the children and encouraged the adults to trust Jesus.
We thank God for HCJB Global and their team from South America They were wonderful ambassadors for Christ and won the hearts of the people they served - and of our Gud Nius Redio staff.
- The local "Sasamungga Primary Healthcare" clinic. No wonder the people didn't want this well equipped medical team to leave

- Next picture down - The wife of one of the doctors spent most of her time ministering to the children
Did you know we have been given half the money needed to plant a new Christian station to minister to the people in this area? Again, we thank HCJB for this. And we have also been offered an ideal site for the transmitter and antenna. a very high site (so the FM signal can reach into the valleys) and with electric power available (that's not common). The new station will be a relay from the main station in Honiara. We have also been promised 200 solar-powered radio receivers to put into the villages so the people can tune in to Christian radio. As you look at these photos, you can get an idea of the impact this ministry will have.

Thank you for your support in prayer and finance
Praise the Lord for this opportunity to serve His people in their time of need for this opportunity for a new radio station in the area
Please pray for the people as they seek to rebuild their homes and lives for the people the team were able to share the Gospel with for us as we make plans and raise the rest of the money needed to set up this new station | May God bless you "Tagio Tumas long big fella help iu bin givim and God blong iumi long heaven hemi givim big blesing lon iu." (Thank you for your help and may God bless you, in Solomons pidgin) |
