PNG - Highlander, not Islander

Tony Dua is manager of Laif FM in Wewak
Papua New Guinea.
He is originally from Mt Hagen in the Central Highlands of PNG, so he's used to jungle covered mountains. One of his jokes when we talk on the phone is -
"Remember Graham, I am a Highlander, not an Islander!"

Just as well Tony is a Highlander
and not an Islander!

Tony needs our prayer
Not to move a mountain - to get our signal to the top!

Tony and his staff have to carry everything up a track to our transmitter on Mt Passam Towa, the second highest mountain in East Sepik Province. He first hires a four wheel drive vehicle to get from Wewak town to the mountain.

Then it's everything tied to a pole and a long walk to the top!

Careful preparation is critical - it's a long way back to town if you've left something behind!

Tony and his team have installed a new, more powerful transmitter up the mountain. One better able to withstand the lightning so common in that area. Transmitter failure due to lightning activity is almost an annual event!

Please pray for Tony and the new equipment.
He has the new transmitter running just fine.
However . . .
  • Tony is having trouble setting up the new radio equipment used to send our signal from the studio in Wewak to the transmitter up Mt Passam Towa.
  • Tony is not a radio technician, and there is none in Wewak we can hire.
  • Our technician in NZ guides Tony by phone as they repair and calibrate the equipment.
  • The equipment is easily damaged and the voltage inside can be dangerous. Please pray for Tony's safety.

Radio is always a challenge in remote places like Wewak, PNG
The cost of sending a technician to Wewak is very high. And a technician needs to be experienced in working in these challenging, tropical conditions. The cost of getting supplies and equipment to Wewak is also very high. Mail and freight can take 6 weeks to arrive and  sometimes not arrive at all!

Recently Tony emailed, "...we just got the news from the Aviation Authorities that planes will no longer come to Wewak, becasue two day ago there was an earth quake, the broke the runn way...Now all of business in Wewak will be affected and us too becasue we get our programs for the radio through Post Office...and othehr stuff as well...they informed us that two months from now we might have some planes come in to Wewak..."

In Matthew 21:21,22
Jesus said to trust Him and pray

He said, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt . . . if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

So let us pray -
We don't want this mountain to be removed,
but we do want it conquered by the radio link - in Jesus' Name!

Thank you for standing in faith and prayer
with Tony and his team in PNG.

May God bless you.
