Steven Alufurai's story
How he began working with Pacific Partners in the Solomon Islands.

My Name is Steven Alufurai, I’m married to my beautiful wife Leah, Both of us come from a very strong Christian Family background. Both of us are committed Christians, loving God and serving him.

For me radio is one of the first medium I use after I return from the Institute of the Nations, Youth with a Mission, Perth Campus, Australia. My Background in media is in the area of Video Production/ Digital Film Making/ TV Production. So it was a surprise for me to come home and launch into Radio Broadcasting.

My first involvement with radio is when I see the need for Christian Programming for the urban youths in Honiara Town. During that period we have only three Commercial FM Stations and the National Radio (SIBC), No Christian FM Station yet. We can only hear Christian music only on Sundays with few Christian programs on the national radio.

With limited knowledge in radio programs and no experience in announcing this will be a very big challenge for me. I thank God so much for his leading and guidance after all it was him who gives me the heart and the ideas to start something out of nothing. All I ever do is MAKETING the idea, concept etc. with my friends.

In 2002 a break through come I was called to meet with one of the sponsors who paids for Christian music to be aired for one hour every Sunday evening weekly. He was so exited about the idea for a youth program and Christian music that he can’t wait for us to start. God is so good, his timing was perfect. We start the show with limited resources and music but the impact it has on our listeners was overwhelming.

That was the first youth Christian program live on air on a commercial FM Station. For me it’s the beginning of Christian Broadcasting in the Solomon Islands. Without proper radio trainings we step out anyway, it was his word and Godly music that matters to us. It was a dream of broadcasting Christian music and message of hope to every home.

Today it was a dream come true. We now have our own Christian FM Station Broadcasting 24 hrs a day. I believe God wants to use everyone whether small or big, educated or uneducated, skill or unskilled. If we just say yes to him and allowed him to use us we will see a big difference in our own lives and the lives of those around us. Christian Radio for every Pacific Islander. God Bless you.
