Andrew Tahisi is one of the leaders of Pacific Partners and Gud Nius Redio in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Andrew has outstanding abilities with music and radio production. He does all the production for Gud Nius Redio and we hope to have him producing programs for Pacific Partners stations in other countries as soon as we can supply him with a better studio and more equipment. Andrew Tahisi's story How he met Jesus Christ and began working with Pacific Partners in the Solomon Islands I was brought up in a Christian family where my parents are very strong and committed Christian believers. I began to hear about this man Jesus through my parents who have told me bible stories about Jesus. They always told me that going to Heaven is a one by one thing. This means, that the faith of my parents cannot make me a child of God. My parents can only pass on the physical life to me but not the spiritual life. I joined the Sunday school, went to church regularly and lived by the Christian standard but I realized that all those good things don’t make me a Christian. Thus; I realized that I wasn’t saved because I did not invite Jesus to come into my heart. It was during one of my Sunday school classes that I asked Jesus to come into my heart to be my Lord and personal savior. From that day on I began my Christian walk until today. During my primary school education, I have seen God’s mighty hand upon me. When I was in grade one, I was asked by the youth pastor of our church to join the Church Worship team to play the keyboard [as] no one else was there to play that particular instrument. For me playing such an instrument is a talent that I know God has given me. I never studied music or attended any music school but I can play those musical instruments. Thus, I give it all back to him, Glory to God!! When joining the youth ministry, I now started to grow in my Christian life and began to develop my passion for the Lord through playing and listen to Christian music. From1999 to 2003, I did my secondary education during the height of the ethnic tension on the Island of Guadalcanal. I thank God even if the crisis was on, nothing disturbed my education, Praise the Lord!! Then in 2003, God did something very exiting in my life and I just can’t believe it. I was selected by the Rotary Club of Honiara to represent Solomon Islands on an international youth cultural exchange program held in Sydney Australia. There were about12 top students from six different High schools in Honiara that were applying for this program but I thank God because I was the one that was selected to represent the country that year. In 2004, I went over Su’u secondary school, a mission boarding school on Malaita Province that was started by the early missionaries. It was my prayer to do my form six there and it was answered. At school, I involved in all Christian activities especially prayer. I joined a group of students and teachers that usually come together to pray every morning and evening. On the other hand, I also produced good results in my studies. At one time, we did an assignment for our English subject requiring us to write up an application letter for a job of our own interest. So I wrote mine pretending that I want to be radio announcer. When the results came out I was the one who scored the high marks out of the whole class I was so excited. Anyway, I forgot all about it. I left School in 2004 after sitting the Pacific Secondary School Certificate exams and was waiting for my results. However, the result wasn’t turned out the way I expected, I didn’t go through to do my next level of study. I was really disappointed and was questioning God why could a loving God do this to me . Anyway, that was the time Charles [Barkley Ratu from Gud Nius Redio] asked if I would like to work at the Radio Station and I told Charles I’d love to do that. Today, it’s a joy to serve God in this radio ministry whereby we can reach and touch the lives of those who never heard of the good news of Jesus Christ. |
